DQRA and Remedial Strategy

Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment and Remedial Strategy

Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment for Controlled Waters and a Remedial Strategy for the redevelopment of a former industrial site with residential properties in Kent

Sevenoaks Environmental Consultancy were commissioned to produce a Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment (DQRA) for Controlled Waters (including both an adjacent river and underlying sensitive aquifer) and for Human Health following the identification of hydrocarbon free product within the ground at a former industrial site located in West Kent.  The DQRA was required to help derive remedial target values for soil and groundwater clean up and therefore to help inform a Remedial Strategy ahead of the redevelopment of the site with a high rise block of residential flats.

SEC were able to demonstrate through the DQRA that following a programme of initial groundwater remediation that a period of monitored natural attenuation would complete the remedial process without a detrimental affect to the groundwater or adjacent river.  Not only did this save the Client a significant amount of time and money it also alleviated a number of other engineering complexities specific to the site that would have been realised as a result of extensive free product recovery which included archaeological sensitivity and asbestos impacted Made Ground that otherwise would remain undisturbed and capped beneath hardstanding.
